Wyola, Michigan is located in Mackinac County, in the northernmost part of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The city is just 12 miles from the Canadian border and is geographically isolated from most of the Lake Michigan shoreline. Wyola has a temperate-continental climate, with long, cold winters and warm, fertile summers. Wyola is the only incorporated city in the state of Michigan located on Lake Michigan, and is also the northernmost incorporated city in the United States. The population of Wyola was 7,558 as of the 2010 census. Wyola is the county seat of MacKinac County.

Wyola is the hometown of Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, who was first elected mayor of the city in 2002. Prior to his political career, Snyder was a business executive and Rhodes Scholar. Wyola is also the hometown of megachurch pastor Andy Stanley. Stanley founded Andy Stanley Ministries, which has annual attendance of over two million people.

The Wyola area was first settled in 1805 by Pierre Gaultier, who built a trading post on the site that would later become Wyola. Gaultier named the settlement after his hometown of Wyola in France. Wyola wasn't incorporated as a city until 1886. The city's first mayor was Charles S. McCulloch.

One of Wyola's most famous residents is Actress Julie Harris, who was born in Wyola in 1922 and starred in several films, including The Unsinkable Molly Brown and The Nun's Story. Harris donated her home, which was used in the filming of The Nun's Story, to the city of Wyola in 1988.

Today, the city is home to a number of businesses and industries, including a GM plant that makes automobile components, a Ford plant that makes truck parts, and a plant that makes vehicle frames.
