West Creek is located in the Northeast region of the United States. It is bordered by Rhode Island to the south, Massachusetts to the east, and Connecticut to the north. The city is home to a population of over 16,000 people.

West Creek is located in the extreme northeast corner of the state, between the longitude lines 41° and 44° north. The area is hilly, with a slope of about 20%. The distance from the ocean is about 35 miles and from the Connecticut border about 5 miles.

The settlements in this part of the state were of two kinds,- those made by the pioneers, who, in seeking to escape the heat, malaria, and other discomforts of the Old World, came hither and founded their first homes in the woods and valleys, and those inhabited by the descendants of the English and Dutch farmers and tradesmen who first settled in Massachusettss in the seventeenth century.

The first white settler in West Creek was Leonard Sweet, who arrived here in October, 1768, from the town of Coventry, in England. The first school in the township was taught here by the Rev. Mr. Burr, a Presbyterian minister, in a schoolhouse erected by him on the summit of a rise in the township, near the remains of which, as a memorial of his labors, Mr. Burr has erected a stone.
