Vieques was used as a military base during World War II, and today the town is markedly different than it was in the 1940s. Tourism has become Vieques' primary industry, and the town is home to several popular hotels and restaurants, as well as a few attractions that cater to tourists, such as the Vieques National Wildlife Refuge.
