Vero Beach is located on the Treasure Coast of Florida, just south of the St. Lucie County line. The city is bisected by the Intracoastal Waterway, and it is an important center for tourism and commerce on the Treasure Coast.

Vero Beach is bordered on the north by the Indian River Lagoon; on the east by Sebastian Inlet and the Atlantic Ocean; on the south by the City of Stuart; and on the west by the Flagler County line. The city has a land area of and a population of just over 62,000.

The racial makeup of the city was 89.4% White, 2.0% African American, 0.7% Native American, 5.1% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 2.1% from other races, and 2.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.9% of the population.

There were 22,041 households out of which 29.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.3% were married couples living together, 10.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.5% were non-families. 32.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.98.
