Sunset

Darkness
Most people know that sunset is the time when the sun goes down. But did you know that the sun doesn't actually set? Instead, Earth rotates into darkness, giving us the illusion that the sun is setting. So what causes sunset?
Well, it's a combination of things. The Earth's atmosphere scatters sunlight in every direction, but blue and violet light are scattered more than other colors. This is why the sky is usually blue during the daytime. As the sun gets lower in the sky, the atmosphere becomes thicker and more dense.
This scattering of sunlight happens to a greater extent, and we see red and orange light more than blue and violet light. That's why sunset is usually a beautiful red or orange color. So next time you see sunset, remember that you're actually seeing Earth rotate into darkness!
Twin Lakes City is located in south-central Minnesota along the western bank of the Minnesota River. It is the county seat of Lyon County and covers an area of 15.4 square miles. The city's population was 3,019 at the 2010 census.
In 1851, to capitalize on the discovery of gold in the Black Hills of South Dakota, the North West Mounted Police established a post near the confluence of the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers. The new community was named "Twin Lakes" after the two lakes that lay just south of the new site. In 1856 the telegraph arrived, and Twin Lakes quickly assumed a leading role in the regional economy. The twin lakes were ideal for therapeutic bathing, offering both detoxification and relaxation.
The first permanent structures in Twin Lakes were a sawmill, a store, and a blacksmith shop. Businesses such as a flour mill and a clothing store quickly followed. A number of leading Twin Lakes entrepreneurs, including J.S. Douglass, James J. Qualey, and Ferdinand W. Zeile, established banks and served as the city's first businessmen.
In 1872, Twin Lakes became the first Minnesota city to elect a female mayor, Harriet Harris. Harris was also the first woman to serve on the Lyon County Board of Commissioners.
Twin Lakes has served as the county seat of Lyon County since 1871. The city's original courthouse, now a museum, is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Today, Twin Lakes is a leader in the health and wellness industry, with a number of leading businesses in the area, such as The Twin Lakes Spa and Relaxation Center, Twin Lakes Health and Wellness, La Vida Health, Twin Lakes Day Spa, and Twin Lakes Chiropractic Clinic. The city is also home to many art galleries, including the Lyon County Museum, the Lyon County Arts Center, and the Twin Lakes Art Cottages.
Twin Lakes is also home to the Twin Lakes Aircraft Museum, the Twin Lakes Playhouse, and the Lyon County Fairgrounds.

}As the sun sets, the sky slowly grows dark. For many people, this is a time to relax and wind down for the day. But have you ever wondered exactly when it gets dark? The answer may surprise you.
Did you know that darkness actually begins long before the sun sets? As the sun gets lower in the sky, its light has to travel through more atmosphere. This filters out some of the blue light, making the sun look redder. At the same time, shadows get longer and darker. So by the time the sun finally dips below the horizon, darkness has already begun to fall.
Of course, not all places on Earth experience darkness at the same time. Near the equator, the sun sets and rises almost directly overhead. This means that there is less of a difference between daytime and nighttime. Closer to the poles, however, the sun stays low in the sky for much of the year. This leads to longer periods of darkness during wintertime.
