Timnath is a city in and the county seat of Hamilton County, Colorado, United States. The population was 3,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The Timnath area was first explored in 1874 by the Cimarron Valley Coal Company, which found coal there. In 1875, the company built a ranch in the area, and the town of Timnath was platted in 1876. The incorporation of the town was delayed until 1883, when the railroad arrived. Other businesses arrived in the 1880s and 1890s, followed by the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company and the Timnath Lumber Company. The city became an important producer of coke, and it also became home to a large mill and a smelter.
Today, Timnath is a manufacturing and service center. The city's major employers are Timnath Paper Company, Timnath Lumber Company, and Hamilton Manufacturing. The Hamilton County Fair is held each year in Timnath.
The city is located in the eastern portion of the Colorado Rockies, at the base of the foothills. It is bordered by Larkspur to the northwest, Fountain to the northeast, Evergreen to the east, and Lakewood to the south.
