The municipality was formed on March 17, 1903, from portions of Millville Township.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the municipality had a total area of 1.008 square miles (2.591 km2), including 1.008 square miles (2.591 km2) of land and 0.004 square miles (0.108 km2) of water (0.11%).

Annamarie Park, as well as the adjoining Schools of Taftville, Gross Street and Glenwood Elementary School, were added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 7, 1984.

The closest town is Millville, which is southwest of Taftville. New York and Philadelphia are the closest major cities.
