Sturgeon Lake is located in central Minnesota in the counties of Fillmore, Kossuth, Winona and Wright, and has a population of around 13,000 people. The city is located in the Kettle River Valley, and is approximately 60 miles south of the Twin Cities and 100 miles north of the Iowa state line.

The city has a rich agricultural history, and is home to the Walnut Hills Farms, which was the world’s largest vegetable crop production facility until it was surpassed by China in 2007. Sturgeon Lake also has a long history as a center for heavy industry and has been known for its paper mills, pork processing plants and breweries.

The city is located in the far north-central portion of the state and experiences a humid continental climate, with cool to cold winters and warm to hot summers. The closest states and capitals are Iowa to the south and Wisconsin to the north, and the city is within driving distance of many major metropolitan areas, including Minneapolis and St. Paul, as well as Rochester and Rochester Hills in Michigan.

The city’s population was 13,032 as of the 2010 census, and has been growing at a rate of about 2% annually. Sturgeon Lake is home to many businesses and institutions of higher education, including Macalester College, the University of Minnesota-Duluth and Lake Superior College. The city is well-connected to the rest of the state by road and rail, and is served by the Minnesota Amtrak station.
