Stockland city is located in the state of New South Wales, in the eastern region of Australia. It is the capital city of the local government area of the City of Stockland. The city covers an area of 151.2 km2 and has a population of 198,533 as of the 2011 census. The city is also the most populous city in the metropolitan region of Greater Western Sydney, and the 14th most populous city in Australia.

Stockland is located in southeastern New South Wales, just north of the Sydney Central Business District. The city is located on a bend in the Bankstown Creek, immediately south of the intersection of the M5 and M7 motorways. Stockland is south of the Sydney CBD, and east of the Royal Botanic Gardens.

The nearest state capital is Sydney, which is just over 30 km to the north. The closest major city is Brisbane, which is approximately 180 km to the south-west.

The majority of Stockland's population is of Australian origin, with a sizeable minority of English-speaking residents. The city is home to a number of major Australian corporations, including supermarket giant Coles, renewable energy company Black and Veatch, and construction company Boral.
