The city is bordered by South Gate and Irwindale on the southwest; Rancho Cucamonga and Upland on the west; Commerce on the north; and San Bernardino on the northeast. The San Gabriel Mountains form the eastern boundary of the city. It has a hot semi-arid climate with mild winters and hot, dry summers.

The population of the city was 153,098 as of the 2010 census. The population density was 6,562.0 people per square mile (2,551.2/kmĀ²). The racial makeup of the city was 66.0% White, 0.3% African American, 10.4% Native American, 6.1% Asian, 0.0% Pacific Islander, 16.8% from other races, and 5.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 40.4%.
