{Schaghticoke, New York is a small town located in the town of Schaghticoke in Rensselaer County, New York, United States. The population was 10,645 as of the 2010 census. Schaghticoke is part of the Albany-Schenectady-Troy, New York Metropolitan Statistical Area.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which, of it is land and of it (3.27%) is water.
Schaghticoke is in the central part of New York State, just northeast of Albany and south of Troy. It is bordered by Cohoes to the east, Guilderland to the south, Latham to the west, and Watervliet to the north.
The town is located on the eastern bank of the Loudon River and features a variety of hills and valleys, as well as wetlands. Much of the gently rolling land has been used for agricultural purposes for centuries.
As of the census of 2000, there were 10,527 people, 4,527 households, and 2,883 families residing in the town. The population density was 378.1 people per square mile (146.9/km²). There were 5,027 housing units at an average density of 171.1 per square mile (67.9/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.14% White, 0.18% African American, 0.53% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.39% from other races, and 0.97% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.27% of the population.
There were 4,527 households out of which 34.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.0% were married couples living together, 10.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.2% were non-families. 21.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the town, the population was spread out with 25.2% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 34.4% from 25 to 44, 26.4% from 45 to 64, and 8.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 101.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.2 males.
