Most people know that sunset is the time when the sun goes down. But did you know that the sun doesn't actually set? Instead, Earth rotates into darkness, giving us the illusion that the sun is setting. So what causes sunset?
Well, it's a combination of things. The Earth's atmosphere scatters sunlight in every direction, but blue and violet light are scattered more than other colors. This is why the sky is usually blue during the daytime. As the sun gets lower in the sky, the atmosphere becomes thicker and more dense.
This scattering of sunlight happens to a greater extent, and we see red and orange light more than blue and violet light. That's why sunset is usually a beautiful red or orange color. So next time you see sunset, remember that you're actually seeing Earth rotate into darkness!

{Sausalito is an American city located in Marin County, California. Geography Sausalito is located in the far Northern Bay Area, 38 miles north of San Francisco, on the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay. It is located 11 miles south of Tiburon, situated near the San Andreas Fault. The city has a population of about 12,000 and mostly consists of narrow, winding streets and former canals, now mostly lined with Pacific Height’s huge redwoods. History The first human inhabitants of Sausalito may have been prehistoric Coast Miwok. The first Europeans recorded landing in Sausalito was by the Spanish in 1775. In 1835, the Mexican general Pedro Fages sank the U.S.S. San Francisco nearby with the hope of capturing its gold. As the island became populated by American settlers, the spelling of the name evolved from Saucelito to Sausalito. In 1856, a ferry began service from San Francisco to Sausalito, completing the first connection between the two cities. The 1849 allow construction of military buildings helped to establish growth of the town. Around 1881, a small explosion rocked the wharf Lenin resulting in the loss of several vessels and the death of several workers. The town grew in the aftermath of this event by providing services for the fishermen who became stranded. In 1891, the first electric tram line left the city and reached Tiburon. In 1968, two destructive fires destroyed much of the city center. In the 1990s, a restoration and conservation program was initiated to restore many of the city's historic buildings and canals. The 2010 United States Census reported that Sausalito had a population of 12,142. The population density was 2,587.3 people per square mile. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2,682 persons. The Census reported that 12,142 people lived in households, 0 lived in non-institutionalized group quarters, and 0 were institutionalized. There were 472 unmarried opposite-sex partnerships, and 132 same-sex married couples or partnerships.
