Santa Rita Park is located in Santa Barbara County, California. It is bordered by the city of Santa Barbara on the east, the city of Goleta on the north, the city of Santa Maria on the west, and the unincorporated communities of Lompoc and Ojai on the south. The city has a total area of 12.4 square miles, of which 10.4 square miles is land and 2.8 square miles is water.

As of the 2000 census, the city had a population of 36,860. The population density was 1,639.3 inhabitants per square mile (617.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 78.10% White, 0.80% African American, 0.20% Native American, 14.60% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 4.40% from other races, and 3.10% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 10.00% of the population.
