Darkness
Most people know that sunset is the time when the sun goes down. But did you know that the sun doesn't actually set? Instead, Earth rotates into darkness, giving us the illusion that the sun is setting. So what causes sunset?
Well, it's a combination of things. The Earth's atmosphere scatters sunlight in every direction, but blue and violet light are scattered more than other colors. This is why the sky is usually blue during the daytime. As the sun gets lower in the sky, the atmosphere becomes thicker and more dense.
This scattering of sunlight happens to a greater extent, and we see red and orange light more than blue and violet light. That's why sunset is usually a beautiful red or orange color. So next time you see sunset, remember that you're actually seeing Earth rotate into darkness!
Saint Petersburg is one of the cities of Russia, located on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea. The city has a population of 1,753,786 and a land area of 576 km2. Saint Petersburg was founded on May 29,1703 by Peter the Great as the capital of Russia, by the early 19th century, it had become Europeanized, with a strong influence from the western European styles of architecture and art. In 1914, the Russian Revolution began, and Saint Petersburg was the seat of the Russian Provisional Government, during the Soviet period, Saint Petersburg became the second most important city in the Soviet Union, after Moscow. In 1924, the Russian capital was transferred from Moscow to Saint Petersburg, the name Saint Petersburg is derived from the Russian words Санкт-Petersburg, meaning Peter's city. According to the romantic legend, Peter the Great renamed the city after spotting a light in the night sky, the exact date of this event is not known, but it was probably in May or June 1703. During the Great Northern War, Saint Petersburg was captured by the Swedish army on September 17,1704, the Russians then dismantled the city and returned it to the Swedes at the Conference of Nystad in 1721. Peter the Great established the Russian Royal Navy in Saint Petersburg, which played a critical role in the Great Northern War, the early history of the city is associated with Peter I, Emperor of Russia.
When it was founded in 1703, Saint Petersburg was a small settlement on the Gulf of Finland with a population of less than 700 people. Peter the Great quickly realized that Saint Petersburg was a great city, nevertheless, the first few years of his rule were very difficult. This was due to the war with the Swedish Empire, which was joined by Denmark-Norway and Saxony. In 1708, Peter I turned to Frederick II of Prussia for assistance, Frederick II provided more than 500 troops and 20,000 tons of supplies. In return, Peter I granted Frederick II the title of Prince of Estonia, at the same time, Peter I sought to create a colonial empire in Asia. In 1712, he founded the Russian trading port of St. Petersburg on the Baltic Sea, in 1717, Peter I moved the capital of the Russian Empire from Moscow to Saint Petersburg. Peter I insisted that the new capital be located on the Gulf of Finland, adjacent to the hilly country, thus ensuring good defenses. Russia's new capital was small, and its first tasks were to build a port and to establish a military garrison.
Saint Petersburg quickly became, not only the Russian capital, but also one of the most important cities in Europe. Saint Petersburg was Europe's first city to be illuminated by gaslights and it became an important center of trade. Peter the Great also introduced new styles of architecture and art in Saint Petersburg. He wanted the
}As the sun sets, the sky slowly grows dark. For many people, this is a time to relax and wind down for the day. But have you ever wondered exactly when it gets dark? The answer may surprise you.
Did you know that darkness actually begins long before the sun sets? As the sun gets lower in the sky, its light has to travel through more atmosphere. This filters out some of the blue light, making the sun look redder. At the same time, shadows get longer and darker. So by the time the sun finally dips below the horizon, darkness has already begun to fall.
Of course, not all places on Earth experience darkness at the same time. Near the equator, the sun sets and rises almost directly overhead. This means that there is less of a difference between daytime and nighttime. Closer to the poles, however, the sun stays low in the sky for much of the year. This leads to longer periods of darkness during wintertime.
