Reevesville, located in Newton County in the Hempstead Basin of Central Louisiana, is the only incorporated city in Newton County. The population was estimated to be 1,716 as of the 2010 census, making Reevesville the fifth largest city in Newton County. Reevesville is located at (30.011429, -91.536171).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , all land.

As of the census of 2000, there were 886 people, 358 households, and 241 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,214.3 people per square mile (453.1/km²). There were 390 housing units at an average density of 568.2 per square mile (222.3/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.92% White, 1.51% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.26% from other races, and 0.62% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.51% of the population.

There were 358 households out of which 34.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.7% were married couples living together, 15.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.5% were non-families. 33.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.01.

In the city, the population was spread out with 27.3% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 18.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females, there were 89.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $25,750, and the median income for a family was $31,667. Males had a median income of $26,563 versus $18,333 for females. The per capita income for the city was $12,024. About 17.3% of families and 21.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 31.4% of those under age 18 and 17.5% of those age 65 or over.
