Reeds is located in the heartland region of the United States and is bordered by the cities of Des Moines to the west and northeast, Davenport to the northwest, and Bettendorf to the north. The city is also located within the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City metropolitan area which has a population of about 258,000. The closest state capital is Des Moines, which is about 85 miles west of Reeds. The population of Greene County is approximately 63,000.

The city is located in the Driftless Area of northeastern Iowa and experiences a humid continental climate (Köppen climate classification Dfa). The city averages 39.7 inches of rainfall per year and experiences frozen precipitation on average once every two years. The average temperature in Reeds ranges from 25.8 °F in January to 84.0 °F in July. The highest temperature ever recorded in Reeds was 102.7 °F and the lowest temperature ever recorded was −9.9 °F.

The most notable feature of Reeds is the historical courthouse, which was designed by noted architect Bruce Goff and built in 1971. Goff is best known for his design of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The city also has a number of parks and businesses which have been recognized with awards from the Iowa Business Awards.
