Well, it's a combination of things. The Earth's atmosphere scatters sunlight in every direction, but blue and violet light are scattered more than other colors. This is why the sky is usually blue during the daytime. As the sun gets lower in the sky, the atmosphere becomes thicker and more dense.

Ray Brook is a small city located in the northwest corner of New York in the United States. It is approximately midway between Montreal and Albany and is best known for its extensive natural resources and as the home of the Adirondack Park. Ray Brook was settled in the early 1700s by French-speaking Canadians who mixed with the local Mohawk Indians. In 1820, the town was named for the rapids on the Ray River which run through the town.
Ray Brook is located in the watershed of the upper Hudson River and is drained by the West Branch of the Ray River. The city is at the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains and is bisected by the Mohawk River which forms the city’s eastern boundary. Ray Brook experiences a humid continental climate (Dfa), with cold winters and hot summers.

The city is also home to the Adirondack Park, a protected forest that was designated as a National Park in 1892 and is the largest park in New York.
