Rancocas City is a municipality located in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the municipality's population was 9,722, reflecting an increase of 232 (+3.8%) from the 8,969 counted in the 2000 Census.

Rancocas City was founded in 1727 by Nicholas Rancocas, a native of Switzerland who had immigrated to New Jersey in 1692. The community was originally known as "Rancho de las Casas" (The Ranch of the Houses). Rancocas purchased the land from the Lenape Native Americans. The name "Rancocas" is derived from the Lenape word "ranhga" which means "a place abounding in springs", referring to the numerous waterfalls in the area.

Rancocas City is located in the southeastern corner of Morris County and is bordered by Wallington to the south, Hopatcong to the east, and Clayton to the north. The municipality is bisected by Route 206, which passes through the middle. Routes 33, 45, and 202 also cross through the town. The Rancocas Valley and Mount Airy are two nearby landmarks.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the municipality had a total area of 3.328 square miles (8.816 km2), including 2.762 square miles (7.050 km2) of land and 0.898 square miles (2.249 km2) of water (5.5%).

The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Rancocas City has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps.

Rancocas City is served by the Rancocas Valley Regional School District, which serves students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade.

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 9,722 people, 3,792 households, and 2,497 families residing in the municipality. The population density was 2,610.4 per square mile (998.7/km2). There were 4,024 housing units at an average density of 980.3 per square mile (378.9/km2). The racial makeup of the municipality was 88.49% White, 5.41% African American, 0.19% Native American, 2.01% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 1.59% from other races, and 2.96% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.54% of the population.
