Pinecrest has a subtropical climate characterized by hot, humid summers and mild winters. The city receives an average of nearly 38 inches of rainfall per year, most of it in the form of rain. The average temperature in January is 29.5 degrees Fahrenheit and in July is 86.3 degrees Fahrenheit.

The closest states are Georgia to the west, Florida to the south, and Alabama to the north. The capital of Florida is Tallahassee. The Pinecrest Micropolitan Statistical Area had a population of 92,850 in 2010.

The city is home to Cypress Lake Park, Pinecrest Country Club, and Oakland Park Municipal Golf Course. The public schools in Pinecrest are Mustang MS, Brandon MS, and Harvest Ridge MS. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Miami has two Catholic schools in the city: Kiser Catholic School and St. Agnes Catholic School. Pinecrest is home to a branch of the University of South Florida.
