Piketon is located in the southeastern corner of Hancock County and stretches north to the Ohio-Indiana state line. The city is bordered to the north by the town of Green Griffin, to the east by the city of Wellsville, to the south by the city of Gahanna, and to the west by the unincorporated community of Centerville.

The city is located at the junction of state Routes 34 and 54 and is approximately 54 miles south of Columbus and 88 miles south of Cincinnati. According to the 2010 census, the median income for Piketon residents is $44,972.

The city is home to the Piketon Municipal Airport and the Piketon Golf Course. In addition to its own attractions, the city is close to the Ohio State University campus in Columbus, the Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, and the Cranberry Bowl ski resort in, Zanesville.
