Oscoda is located at the mouth of the Oscoda River on Lake Huron. The town was first settled in 1829 by Hiram Parker and his family. The city was originally known as Parker Beach, and was renamed Oscoda in 1851 in honor of Isaac Oscoda, the governor of the Michigan Territory at the time.
