Seattle's location was strategically important because it was the first major port on the Pacific Coast. The city was also near coal and copper mines. The people of Seattle were very welcoming to the settlers who arrived in the early days of the city. The weather in Seattle is usually mild, with a average temperature of 52 degrees Fahrenheit.
