The area now known as Moville was originally occupied by the Wichita people. The first Europeans to visit the area were Spanish explorers who claimed the land for Mexico in the 18th century. Early settlers in the area included the Archibald and Susan McArthur families, who established a small community on the banks of the Canadian River in the late 1800s. The city of Moville was born in 1904 when the railroad was built through the area. The city was incorporated in 1916.
