Morenci is located in the southeast corner of Michigan and is the county seat of Muskegon County. The city is just 10 miles west of Muskegon, Michigan’s largest city and is situated on the shore of Muskegon Lake. The city is located near the geographic center of Michigan and is bordered by the US states of Michigan and Indiana to the north, west, and south, respectively. The state capital, Lansing, is just 80 miles to the west.

Morenci has a humid continental climate, abbreviated "Dfa" on climate maps. Summers are hot and humid, with a high of around 93°F (34°C) on July 4th and a low of around 66°F (19°C) in January. Winters are cold and snowy, with a high of around 38°F (3°C) in January and a low of around 12°F (-11°C) in July. Rainfall is abundant throughout the year, with an annual average of around 43 inches (1, 100 mm).

Morenci is home to the Muskegon County Historical Society Museum, which is housed in the Muskegon County Courthouse. The museum is open every day from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and during regular business hours from Tuesday through Friday during the rest of the year. Admission is free.

Morenci is also home to the Morenci Lumber Company, which was founded in 1874. The company is now one of the largest in the area, producing hardwood flooring, plywood, and other lumber products. The company is located just outside the city on Muskegon Creek.

Morenci is serviced by the Greater Muskegon Area Transportation Authority (GMATA) public bus system. GMATA has regular service to the city's main shopping and employment areas, as well as to Lansing, the state capital.
