The municipality is bordered by Bethlehem, PA to the northwest, Bridgeton, NJ to the northeast, Knowlton Township, NJ to the east, Mendham Borough, NJ to the south, and Upper Freehold Township, NJ to the west. The nearest state capital is Trenton, NJ, which is approximately 32 miles away. Moorestown was originally settled by the Lenni Lenape Native Americans, and the region subsequently became part of the Province of New Jersey. The first white settlers arrived in Moorestown in the late 1700s and the town was officially incorporated in 1798.
