Mc Caskill is located in Missouri and is the second most populous city in the state after St. Louis. The city is located in the Central Time Zone and has a population of approximately 121,000. The nearest states are Illinois and Kansas, while the capital is Springfield.

Mc Caskill is located in southwestern Missouri at 39°2′N 92°29′W. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 19.9 square miles, of which, 17.4 square miles is land and 2.5 square miles is water.

The city is bordered by the city of Jefferson City, the county seat of Pettis County. The Missouri River forms the eastern border of the city.

As of the census of 2000, there were 113,692 people, 43,394 households, and 32,853 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,752.1 people per square mile (669.7/km²). There were 45,453 housing units at an average density of 661.9 per square mile (254.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 81.38% White, 8.44% African American, 0.21% Native American, 6.86% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.92% from other races, and 2.51% from two or more races.
