Location and Geography of Mayaguez City
Situated in the southernmost tip of Puerto Rico at the tip of the Añasco Peninsula, Mayaguez City is bordered on the east by the Caribbean Sea, on the north by the municipality of Utuado, and on the south by the municipalities of Margarita and Culebra.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.5 square miles (29 km2), of which 0.9 square miles (2.4 km2) is land and 10.4 square miles (28 km2) is water. The city is located on the southern tip of Puerto Rico, near the international border with the Dominican Republic.
