Most people know that sunset is the time when the sun goes down. But did you know that the sun doesn't actually set? Instead, Earth rotates into darkness, giving us the illusion that the sun is setting. So what causes sunset?
Well, it's a combination of things. The Earth's atmosphere scatters sunlight in every direction, but blue and violet light are scattered more than other colors. This is why the sky is usually blue during the daytime. As the sun gets lower in the sky, the atmosphere becomes thicker and more dense.
This scattering of sunlight happens to a greater extent, and we see red and orange light more than blue and violet light. That's why sunset is usually a beautiful red or orange color. So next time you see sunset, remember that you're actually seeing Earth rotate into darkness!
Los Altos is a city located in Santa Clara County, California, United States. It is named for its high altitudes, which give reputation for its spectacular views. The city has a population of 26,000+ people and is a part of the Silicon Valley region. Los Altos was originally part of the Rancho San Antonio land grant of 1836, given to José Prado. In 1851, with the California Gold Rush underway, Prado sold the rancho to Martin Murphy, who built a wheat farm on the property. In 1900, George E. Coddington, a millwright and businessman, purchased the Murphy property and built the first building in what would become Los Altos, a flour mill.

The city also receives very little rainfall, with an average of 11.5 inches annually.

Los Altos is served by three primary schools: Los Altos School, Meadowood School and Sunshine Hills School. Los Altos holds a partnership with nearby Mountain View School, which allows students to take classes in Mountain View and earn their high school diploma. Additionally, there are several private schools, including Sacred Heart School and Saint Francis School.
The Los Altos Library was founded in 1912 and is located at 1200 El Camino Real. The library offers many programs and services such as storytime, book clubs and one-on-one consultations. The library also has a business center and a large video spacious.
Besides the library, there are a few other places in Los Altos that offer special services. The J. Paul Getty Museum is located across the street from the library and features a large collection of art. The Los Altos Tennis Club is located at the southwest corner of El Camino Real and Stevens Creek Boulevard and offers a variety of tennis facilities for the public. Additionally, the Los Altos Recreation Center offers a variety of classes, sports and recreation opportunities.

Did you know that darkness actually begins long before the sun sets? As the sun gets lower in the sky, its light has to travel through more atmosphere. This filters out some of the blue light, making the sun look redder. At the same time, shadows get longer and darker. So by the time the sun finally dips below the horizon, darkness has already begun to fall.
Of course, not all places on Earth experience darkness at the same time. Near the equator, the sun sets and rises almost directly overhead. This means that there is less of a difference between daytime and nighttime. Closer to the poles, however, the sun stays low in the sky for much of the year. This leads to longer periods of darkness during wintertime.
