{Leonidas is a medium-sized city located in the central part of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is within the Tri-Cities region, which also includes Kingsford and Manistee. The population was 16,597 at the 2010 census.
The city consists of neighborhoods and is roughly bordered by I-75 to the east, Ste. Marie River to the south and west, and Grand River to the north.
The city is located in the fertile Pontiac Valley, and is rich in agriculture, with crops such as corn, soybean, flax, and wheat. The city is also home to Kimberly-Clark and United Foods, two of the largest producers of food, paper and packaging products in the world.
Located in the middle of the United States, Leonidas is close to several major cities. Detroit is to the east, Lansing is to the south and west, and Lansing, Muskegon, and Grand Rapids are all within 50 miles of the city. Detroit and Lansing are both served by Amtrak, and Muskegon is served by the Muskegon Area Express.
According to the 2010 census, the racial makeup of the city was 98.9% white, 0.2% black, 0.4% Native American, and 0.2% Asian. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.1% of the population.
The average temperature in January is 34 degrees Fahrenheit and in July the average temperature is 84 degrees Fahrenheit.
There are several schools in the city, including Lake Orion High School, East Jordan Middle School, and Midwest Christian Academy. The University of Michigan-Flint is also located just outside of the city limits.

This filters out some of the blue light, making the sun look redder. At the same time, shadows get longer and darker. So by the time the sun finally dips below the horizon, darkness has already begun to fall.
Of course, not all places on Earth experience darkness at the same time. Near the equator, the sun sets and rises almost directly overhead. This means that there is less of a difference between daytime and nighttime. Closer to the poles, however, the sun stays low in the sky for much of the year. This leads to longer periods of darkness during wintertime.
