With a population of 2,519 in the 2010 census, Larimore is the largest city in Campbell County and the second largest city in Wyoming. The city is located in the Larimore Valley, at an elevation of 3,000 feet.
Larimore was founded in 1897, when the Union Pacific Railroad extended a line through the valley. The community was named for Major General James G. Larimore, who was killed in the Mexican-American War. Larimore is the only incorporated city in Campbell County.
The city is in the southwest corner of Campbell County, and is bordered to the north by the town of Rawlins, to the east by the town of Westville, to the south by the town of Cody, and to the west by the town of Wynne. Larimore is midway between the state capital of Cheyenne and the largest city in the state, Casper.
The climate in Larimore is generally cool and dry, characterized by significant variability in temperature and precipitation. Monthly averages range from a low of in January to a high of in July. The city experiences an average of 163 days of frost per year.
The economy of Larimore is based primarily on agriculture and mining. The city is well known for its production of wheat, barley, hay, and eggs. The Larimore Valley is also a significant dairy producer. The city has a Federal Reserve Bank branch and a state prison.
