Lajas is located in the southern part of the state of Tabasco, in Mexico. The municipality has an area of 158.36 km2 and its population was 17,860 inhabitants at the 2010 census. The city is the municipal seat and the largest one in the municipality. The municipal government is also the most populous, with 10,644 registered electors in the 2010 census.
Lajas has a hot and humid climate, with an average annual temperature of 19 °C. It experiences a great variation in temperature from day to night, with a temperature range from 12 °C in the morning to 26 °C in the afternoon.
The municipality of Lajas is located in the south of the state of Tabasco, in the coastal lowlands that extend to the Gulf of Mexico. Its terrain is hilly, with elevations ranging from sea level to 1,500 m.
Lajas is crossed by the state highway RP-127, which connects the city with the state capital Morelos- Huatabampo and the municipality of Huatabampo. There are also regional roads that connect the municipality with other municipalities in the state.
