LaFontaine also has a rich history. The city was founded in 1854, and it quickly became a booming trade center for the surrounding area. In 1874, the town was incorporated and it has been growing steadily ever since.
The main commercial artery in LaFontaine is Ohio Street. From here, you can head downtown to see some of the historical buildings, like the Durkee Mansion, the LaFontaine Post Office, and the LaFontaine City Hall.
