Kenilworth, Illinois is located in Lake County at the junction of Interstate 57 and Interstate 80. The city is bordered by Crystal Lake to the northwest and Westchester to the northeast. In addition to nearby communities such as Vernon Hills, Hoffman Estates, and sometimes Glenview, Kenilworth also shares borders with neighboring states Indiana and Wisconsin. The city has a population of just over 47,000 people, making it the fourth-most populous city in Lake County.

Located in the far northwestern corner of the state, Kenilworth is one of the coldest cities in Illinois with a January average of 31 degrees Fahrenheit, and a July average of 74 degrees Fahrenheit. Much of the city is built on the banks and lakes of Lake Michigan, with the Illinois Central Railroad running along the western edge of the city.
