Most people know that sunset is the time when the sun goes down. But did you know that the sun doesn't actually set? Instead, Earth rotates into darkness, giving us the illusion that the sun is setting. So what causes sunset?
Well, it's a combination of things. The Earth's atmosphere scatters sunlight in every direction, but blue and violet light are scattered more than other colors. This is why the sky is usually blue during the daytime. As the sun gets lower in the sky, the atmosphere becomes thicker and more dense.
This scattering of sunlight happens to a greater extent, and we see red and orange light more than blue and violet light. That's why sunset is usually a beautiful red or orange color. So next time you see sunset, remember that you're actually seeing Earth rotate into darkness!
Kellyton is a small city located in Logan County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,851 at the 2010 census. Kellyton is the county seat of Logan County and is located on Kentucky Route 2.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , of which is land and is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,697 people, 1,029 households, and 719 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,090.3 people per square mile (809.5/km²). There were 1,128 housing units at an average density of 706.5 per square mile (271.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.37% White, 0.24% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.88% from other races, and 1.07% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.93% of the population.
There were 1,029 households out of which 36.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.1% were married couples living together, 14.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.9% were non-families. 27.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.07.
In the city, the population was spread out with 26.9% under the age of 18, 11.4% from 18 to 24, 31.4% from 25 to 44, 16.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females, there were 103.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.8 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $27,521, and the median income for a family was $30,750. Males had a median income of $27,154 versus $18,929 for females. The per capita income for the city was $13,613. About 15.1% of families and 17.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 26.1% of those under age 18 and 14.4% of those age 65 or over.
The City of Kellyton is served by the Logan County School District. Schools in the district include Kellyton Elementary, Kellyton Middle, and Kellyton High School.
