Hoxie, Kansas is located in Barton County, Kansas, in the United States. The city is on the Kansas/Oklahoma border, southeast of Wichita. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , all of it land. The city has a climate that is classified as semi-arid by the Köppen climate classification system.

Hoxie was founded in 1887 and named after General Nathaniel Banks Hoxie, an army officer who served in the U.S. Civil War. The city grew slowly at first, but began to rapidly grow in the early 1900s after the discovery of oil in the area. According to the 2010 census, there were 3,649 people living in the city. The population density was 1,527.2 people per square mile (591.4/km²). There were 1,784 housing units at an average density of 623.4 per square mile (242.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was White, Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.2% of the population.
