Highland Lakes is a town situated in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the town had a population of 1,907. Highland Lakes is the incorporated municipality of Highland Lakes, which has a population of 4,770 as of the 2010 census. It is located in Tarrant County, Texas, northwest of Fort Worth.

Highland Lakes is located in western North Texas on the eastern edge of the Edwards Plateau. The town's elevation ranges from 1,600 to 2,000 feet (500 to 600 m). The area is characterized by rolling hills and is located within the Balcones Escarpment.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,760 people, 701 households, and 527 families residing in the town. The population density was 344.9 people per square mile (133.5/km²). There were 802 housing units at an average density of 142.2 per square mile (54.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 96.28% White, 0.41% African American, 0.94% Native American, 0.22% from other races, and 2.77% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.39% of the population.

There were 701 households out of which 27.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.6% were married couples living together, 6.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.5% were non-families. 24.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 2.99.

In the town, the population was spread out with 24.5% under the age of 18, 4.5% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 29.5% from 45 to 64, and 16.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females, there were 101.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.7 males.
