According to the 2010 United States Census, the city has a population of 89,239. The Granada Hills area was originally inhabited by the Tongva, who called the area Aqua Calva. The city was chartered in 1893 and it was the home of a number of motion picture studios before the advent of sound recording. Some of the notable studios that were located in Granada Hills include Paramount Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Revue Studios, and the Herschell-Spillman Company.
