Grambling City, located in northwest Louisiana, is the fifth-largest city in the state and the largest city in the Caddo Parish. The city is located about 62 miles west of Shreveport and about 162 miles north of Baton Rouge. The city is bisected by the White River, which forms its southern border. The city has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and generally mild winters. In 2008, the city's estimated population was 38,141.

Grambling City is bordered by the city of Bossier City to the north, the city of Shreveport to the east, the city of Monroe to the south, and the city of Alexandria to the west. The city is part of the Shreveport-Bossier City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The nearest states are Arkansas to the south, Texas to the southwest, and Texas to the west. The nearest capital city is Baton Rouge, about 160 miles to the north.

The city is located in the northwestern corner of the state. The White River forms the city's southern border, dividing it into East Grambling and West Grambling. The city is orientated almost exactly north/south and extends about 4 miles east/west.
