Fair Haven, located in the state of New Jersey, is a census-designated place (CDP) and unincorporated community located within Howell Township, in Monmouth County. As of the 2010 United States Census, the CDP population was 9,595. Fair Haven is situated on the east side of the Raritan River, northwest of New York City, and northeast of Philadelphia.

At the 2000 census, there were 9,319 people, 3,444 households and 2,895 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 4,243.6 per square mile (1,651.9/km²). There were 3,607 housing units at an average density of 1,649.3/sq mi (666.5/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 93.55% White, 1.81% African American, 0.11% Native American, 2.28% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.97% from other races, and 1.79% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.97% of the population.

There were 3,444 households of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.2% were married couples living together, 9.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.7% were non-families. 25.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.02.

Age distribution was 23.2% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 94.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $57,912, and the median income for a family was $66,674. Males had a median income of $46,466 versus $33,875 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $27,256. About 2.7% of families and 5.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 7.4% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
