El Rito is a small, unincorporated community in southeastern New Mexico. It is located on the eastern shore of Sandia Lake, approximately 45 miles south-southeast of Albuquerque. El Rito is also home to one of Sandia National Laboratories' wind tunnels.

El Rito is located on the eastern side of Sangre de Cristo Mountains, approximately 10 miles south of the foothills of the Zuni Mountains. The community is bordered by the communities of Rio Rancho and Jemez Springs to the north, east and south, respectively.

The community of El Rito includes a general store, a convenience store, a gas station, a dentist, two churches, a few small businesses, a post office, a public library, and a few homes. The community has a population of less than 1,000.

The community is served by Rio Rancho Public Schools. The closest universities are the University of New Mexico and the University of Texas at El Paso.
