East Templeton’s location, at the juncture of three counties, has given it a varied history. It was originally settled as part of Easton Township, which was created in 1797. The township was later divided, with part going to Northampton County and part to Clinton County. East Templeton became an independent borough in 1860.

East Templeton is located in the northern section of Northampton County, at the intersection of Pennsylvania Route 24 and Pennsylvania Route 283. The borough is bordered by Northampton County to the north and east, Clinton County to the south, and the boroughs of Spring Grove, Easton, and Llewellyn to the west.
