Named for none other than Confederate general and Mississippi politician, Jefferson Davis, the city covers just 3.3 square miles and has a population of just 6,950 people. The city is located just 18 miles northeast of Fort Wayne, the state capital, and is also just 30 miles from the Illinois border. The nearest states are Indiana to the north, Kentucky to the east, and Michigan to the south. The capital of Indiana, Indianapolis, is 212 miles to the north.

Demotte experiences a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and chilly, moderately humid winters. The month of October is the warmest, with an average temperature of 61 degrees Fahrenheit, and January is the coldest, with an average temperature of 28 degrees Fahrenheit.
