Deford is an unincorporated community located in Lawrence County, Iowa, United States. It is about northeast of Mount Ayr.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of , all of it land.

As of the census of 2000, there were 190 people, 74 households, and 54 families residing in the community. The population density was 589.6 people per square mile (227.6/km²). There were 84 housing units at an average density of 245.7 per square mile (94.8/km²). The racial makeup of the community was 98.86% White and 1.14% African American.

There were 74 households out of which 32.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.3% were married couples living together, 6.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.0% were non-families. 22.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.73 and the average family size was 3.26.

In the community, the population was spread out with 27.4% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 31.0% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 11.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 114.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 114.5 males.

The median income for a household in the community was $41,250, and the median income for a family was $44,375. Males had a median income of $34,375 versus $21,167 for females. The per capita income for the community was $18,089. There were no families and 4.7% of the population living below the poverty line, including no under eighteens and none of those over 64.
