Dauphin, also spelled Dauphin County, is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. As of the 2010 census, the population was 117,653. The county seat is Harrisburg.

Dauphin County is located in the northeast corner of the state and is bordered by Susquehanna County, Lancaster County, York County, and Schuylkill County.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 273 square miles (691 km2), of which 273 square miles (691 km2) is land and 0.2 square miles (0.5 km2) (0.05%) is water.

The county was created by an act of the Pennsylvania Legislature on March 4, 1788; it was named for the Duke of Dauphin, son of Louis XVI of France.

The natural surface features in Dauphin County are gently rolling hills and valleys, with the notable exception of Lewis Hills, near the Harrisburg area. These hills are made of a hard red sandstone. The soil is fertile, and crops have been grown here for hundreds of years. There are also a number of lakes, including Pine Creek Lake, the largest lake in the county.

The climate of the county is moderate. Temperatures range from the lows of the winter to the highs of the summer. The southwest part of the county experiences a moderate climate, with hot summers and cold winters. The northeast part of the county has a colder climate, with colder winters and hotter summers.

As of the census of 2010, there were 117,653 people, 46,779 households, and 30,326 families residing in the county. The population density was 474.4 people per square mile (184.8/km²). There were 52,060 housing units at an average density of 164.2 per square mile (63.3/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 97.3% White, 0.3% Black or African American, 0.1% Native American, 1.5% Asian, 0.0% Pacific Islander, 0.5% from other races, and 1.1% from two or more races. Approximately 2.0% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 46,779 households out of which 31.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.4% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.7% were non-families. 24.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.06.
