Craig is located in western Colorado, in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The city is bordered by the state capital, Denver, to the north; Colorado Springs, to the east; Grand Junction, to the south; and Cortez, to the west. The city is home to Colorado Western Community College and the University of Colorado at Boulder. The city's official motto is "Grow where you are planted."
