Countyline is bounded on the west by the counties of Reynolds and Andrew, on the north by Greene County, on the east by the counties of Stone and Ray, and on the south by the county of Lawrence. The population of the city was 4,694 in the 2010 census, up from 3,830 in 2000. The city is home to three colleges and universities, the Missouri University of Science and Technology, the Christian Learning Institute, and Emerald City Baptist College. Countyline is also the home of the Northwest Missouri National Wildlife Federation headquarters and one of the nation's top nature centers, The Ozarks Folklife Center. This filters out some of the blue light, making the sun look redder. At the same time, shadows get longer and darker. So by the time the sun finally dips below the horizon, darkness has already begun to fall.
Of course, not all places on Earth experience darkness at the same time. Near the equator, the sun sets and rises almost directly overhead. This means that there is less of a difference between daytime and nighttime. Closer to the poles, however, the sun stays low in the sky for much of the year. This leads to longer periods of darkness during wintertime.
