Darkness
Most people know that sunset is the time when the sun goes down. But did you know that the sun doesn't actually set? Instead, Earth rotates into darkness, giving us the illusion that the sun is setting. So what causes sunset?
Well, it's a combination of things. The Earth's atmosphere scatters sunlight in every direction, but blue and violet light are scattered more than other colors. This is why the sky is usually blue during the daytime. As the sun gets lower in the sky, the atmosphere becomes thicker and more dense.
This scattering of sunlight happens to a greater extent, and we see red and orange light more than blue and violet light. That's why sunset is usually a beautiful red or orange color. So next time you see sunset, remember that you're actually seeing Earth rotate into darkness!

The site of Cliffwood City was a tract of land known as the Cox Redivision. The first settler in the area that became Cliffwood City was Jonathan Cox, who came from England in 1766 and bought 640 acres (2.6 km2) of land from the patroon who had owned it since the early 17th century. The tract that eventually became Cliffwood City was part of the original Bergen County.
In 1812, the town of Cliffwood was founded by Archibald Cox, who named the settlement for the cliffs that overlook the town. The area that became Cliffwood City was then part of the French patent of Bergen County. The original settlement consisted of a few dozen houses and a few stores, and the first post office was established in 1815.
In 1825, a Presbyterian Church was built in Cliffwood City, and the first school was opened in 1829. The town began to grow rapidly in the early 19th century, and by 1870, the population had increased to 1,500 people. The town's first newspaper, the Courier, was published in 1829.
The Cliffwood City post office closed in 1831, and the town's first general store, the Harrison Store, was opened that year. The Harrison Store was later renamed the Cox Store, and was the first store in the town to be run by a female proprietor, Susannah Cox. The Cox Store was also the first store in Cliffwood City to have a gaslight.
In 1892, the Cliffwood City Academy was founded, and in 1910, the town's first bank, the Bergen Savings Bank, was opened. The Cliffwood City Academy later became the Bergen County Academies.
}As the sun sets, the sky slowly grows dark. For many people, this is a time to relax and wind down for the day. But have you ever wondered exactly when it gets dark? The answer may surprise you.
Did you know that darkness actually begins long before the sun sets? As the sun gets lower in the sky, its light has to travel through more atmosphere. This filters out some of the blue light, making the sun look redder. At the same time, shadows get longer and darker. So by the time the sun finally dips below the horizon, darkness has already begun to fall.
Of course, not all places on Earth experience darkness at the same time. Near the equator, the sun sets and rises almost directly overhead. This means that there is less of a difference between daytime and nighttime. Closer to the poles, however, the sun stays low in the sky for much of the year. This leads to longer periods of darkness during wintertime.
