Caguas, Puerto Rico – located in the central region of the island – is the fourth largest municipality and the most populous city in Puerto Rico.

Situated on the north coast of the island, Caguas comprises a rugged terrain, near the international coastal plain. The municipality is bounded on the north by Juana Diaz and on the east and south by Guayama. The city covers an area of 178.2 square miles.

The city has three coasts:

The Isla Verde cliffs, part of the wildlife reserve of Isla Verde, are located in the east.

The Cabezon de San Juan, a -tall mountain, is located in the west.

The Don Melchor de Aguadilla International Airport is located in the south, southeast of the city.

The municipality of Caguas is located in central Puerto Rico, 120 miles from San Juan and 215 miles from San Francisco.

Caguas is bordered by the municipalities of Juana Diaz to the north, Guayama to the east and south, and Hatillo to the west.

It is located in the Central Mountain Range.

The municipality contains the census-designated place of Cabezon de San Juan and the census-designated place of Caguas Norte.

Most of the environment is mountainous: Cerro de Punta, Cerro de los Monjes, Cerro de la Cabecera, and Cerro de la Piedra Gorda.

The municipality has a warm climate, comparatively dry, with a rainy season in the summer and a dry season in the winter.

The municipality has a variety of ecosystems: rain forest, cedar forest, prairies, meadows, laurels, deciduous and evergreen oak forests, ponds and streams.

The most important natural landmarks are Las Terrazas, Cabezon de San Juan and Isla Verde.

The name "Caguas" is believed to be derived from the Taíno cah-wah.

The Taíno cah-wah was the name given to a beautiful freshwater lagoon located in present-day Caguas.

According to tradition, the cacique or ruler of the region, " freshwater lagoon ", because it had never been inundated by the sea and the water did not mix with the salt water.

The story tells that a young woman fell in love with an old man and was not allowed to see him.

They met in the cacique's freshwater lagoon.

The settlement of Caguas was founded on October 15, 1537, by Juan Ponce de León and his brother, Vicente.

Caguas was the capital of Puerto Rico from 1871 to 1873.

As the sun sets, the sky slowly grows dark. For many people, this is a time to relax and wind down for the day. But have you ever wondered exactly when it gets dark? The answer may surprise you.

Did you know that darkness actually begins long before the sun sets? As the sun gets lower in the sky, its light has to travel through more atmosphere. This filters out some of the blue light, making the sun look redder. At the same time, shadows get longer and darker. So by the time the sun finally dips below the horizon, darkness has already begun to fall.

Of course, not all places on Earth experience darkness at the same time. Near the equator, the sun sets and rises almost directly overhead. This means that there is less of a difference between daytime and nighttime. Closer to the poles, however, the sun stays low in the sky for much of the year. This leads to longer periods of darkness during wintertime.
