Located on Interstate 77 approximately 15 miles east of hillsville, the city of Braxton is home to the Harrison County Courthouse, the only brick courthouse in West Virginia.

The median age in the city was 34.9 years. 25.9% of residents were under the age of 18; 7.7% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 25.5% were from 25 to 44; 26.5% were from 45 to 64; and 13.4% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 47.2% male and 52.8% female.

There were 2,279 housing units at an average density of 421.2 per square mile (162.5/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.35% White, 0.21% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.46% from other races, and 0.90% from two or more races.
