It is part of the Jackson and Southeast Missouri region. Brashear City was founded in 1879, and was originally called Macon City. It was renamed Brashear City in 1886, in honor of Senator Thomas D. Brashear. Brashear City is located at 33°30′15″N 90°27′53″W. According to the 2010 census, Brashear City has a population of 1,646.
Brashear City is located in the center of the Bootheel. It is bounded by Fulton County to the north, by Cape Girardeau County to the east, by Monroe County to the south, and by Livingston County to the west. It is approximately sixty miles west of Hannibal, Missouri and 350 miles southeast of Kansas City, Missouri. Brashear City has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild to cool winters. In the summer, temperatures can reach the high 90s, while in the winter, temperatures can range from the mid twenties to the mid thirties.
